Iolanthe is a comic opera with music by composer Arthur Sullivan with the libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It is one of the Savoy operas and is the seventh collaboration of the fourteen operettas between Gilbert and Sullivan. It was the first of the G&S works to be produced in London at the Savoy Theatre on 25 November 1882 and ran for 398 performances. The story concerns a band of immortal fairies who find themselves at odds with the House of Peers and uses wonderful music and comedy to highlight the corrupt practice of wealth and station rather than intelligence gaining political power. The opera satirises many aspects of British government and law and is as relevant today as it was when it was written.

This production is a concert performance with the Manx Gilbert and Sullivan Society and for £10.00 there is marvellous Tea available beforehand at Trinity Church from 5.30pm followed by the performance at the Youth Arts Centre at 7.00pm. (Tickets without the tea are £7.50). Both tickets are available from Manx Gilbert and Sullivan Society 624387 or 823659.
